How to Keep Going After Failure

Georgia Dunstan-Brown

Let’s get this straight. Ideas are not always meant to work. They’re risks that your mind creates in a spontaneous moment; they are what makes your creative side leap with joy but also at times crumple into a heap.

Taking risks is important in life. If you don’t take risks, then it is harder to live your best life. In a professional context, risks are even scarier as they can make or break a company.

You’ve probably heard of the list of successful people who have faced failures. I find the list to be inspirational and useful. Oprah got fired from her first television job, Walt Disney’s former newspaper editor said that he ‘lacked imagination and had no good ideas’ and J.K Rowling was a single mother, living on the benefit and received loads of rejections for her book Harry Potter.

Rowling herself said “You will fail. That’s inevitable. It’s what you do with it."

At Kuvio Creative, we like to try ideas out and if they don’t work, they don’t work. We took the risk of changing our whole image, from website to logo. We took the risk of hiring people from all over the world without meeting them face to face. We’ve grown from our risks, and learnt from our failures. You have to be humble that you’re never going to be at the top, you just have to keep pushing forward, towards greatness.

Here are some tips on how to be a successful risk taker:

1.Understand that you’re going to fail sometimes.

When you understand that failure will come in your lifetime, you will become a more humble person and you won’t see each failure as a set back, rather a way to grow.

2.Trust your gut.

Sometimes just trusting what your gut is telling you is the decision you want to make. Your subconscious wants to help you achieve so trust it!

3.Fully understand what you are risking

You have to be realistic that sometimes not every risk is going to be achievable, but if you think you have the capabilities to do it, then do it!

4.Don’t listen to people who stomp on your dreams

Just like all the people that got the door slammed in the face when they were trying to achieve something, you can’t let yourself listen to the people that are going to bring you down. They’re not worth it!

5.Your success will be in direct proportion to the risk you’re willing to take.

Any risk that you take needs some effort on your end and depending on how much effort you put in, will be how much success you see.

Learn how to be a risk-taker, learn to trust yourself.
