Facebook is the social media platform that is unparalleled in its ability to create valuable networks for users that tie them to the site. For businesses, this created a great opportunity to reach customers through both organic posts and advertising. For years, this was an important part of all social media marketing plans. However, the Kuvio Creative team has decided to leave Facebook. There are several reasons why we decided to take this step and we wanted to share them with you.
1. Studies have found that only about 2% of a brand’s fans actually see its posts
We love our clients and supporters and we want to use platforms where they will actually be able to stay connected with us. We get it, there are a lot of brands to keep track of and if you don’t see our posts you might forget about us for a while. As a result, we plan to focus our efforts on platforms where it is easier to stay connected.
2. We believe in efficiency
Running multiple social media accounts is something that our marketing team loves, but it also takes a lot of time to create and share posts. On Facebook, we see the lowest amount of engagement signaling that the time we spend creating posts for Facebook could be spent in other ways that allow us to better connect with our audience. We have always believed in changing processes in the face of inefficiency and we do not want a social media platform to hold us back from this.
3. We want to connect with our audience and they don’t spend a lot of time on Facebook
Generally, the Kuvio audience comes from a younger crowd and we have seen this group moving away from Facebook in favor of other platforms. So while Facebook remains a great place to share photos with grandma, you may not be looking for web services there.
4. We don’t want to have to “pay to play”
Our most meaningful connections online have always been formed through an organic connection with our audience. Whether someone stumbles across our page and stays to learn more, or if we reach out to people we think might be interested in what we do, this has always been most successful without paid advertising. We limit the amount we spend on paid advertising because we want to pass those savings along to our clients. Facebook has made it close to impossible to have significant reach without paid advertising which does not align with our goals.
5. Most importantly: We are not morally aligned with Facebook
We believe in privacy. And Facebook’s actions over the past year or so have proven that they prioritize profits over their users. At Kuvio Creative, our clients always come first because we know that without them we would not exist. During the Cambridge Analytica scandal it became clear that Facebook does not do enough to protect user data and we feel uncomfortable continuing to support an organization like this. This is the largest reason we decided that it was time to leave the platform.
